Situation
Expanding subscriptions and add-ons had been layered onto a static checkout: high decision density, fragmented hierarchy, no contextual summary, excessive input fields and no way to edit.
Task
Consolidate multiple checkout pages into one clear purchase path, and make subscription logic, billing timing and trial terms legible at the point of decision.
designing for clarity at scale
Three shared guardrails agreed across Product, Design and Engineering: clarity, confidence, flexibility.
- One purchase path with a persistent contextual order summary
- Billing cycle, trial terms and true cost stated inline before commitment
- Editable selections without losing progress
- Extended to Android checkout and subscription onboarding for one consistent standard
Result
Clarity converts.
- ~18% relative increase in checkout conversion
- $18M modelled incremental annual revenue against a $150M base growing 15% annually
- Reduced hesitation at pricing comparison and fewer billing-clarity support tickets
